U of A's 5th Title of the Year

(Mar 17) HALIFAX - The gold medal final at the 2002 CIS Men's Basketball Championship had the top two seeds squaring off in a classic battle of the titans. The second seeded University of Alberta Golden Bears won their third W.P. McGee Trophy, and first since 1994-95, with a thrilling 76-71 triumph over the number one ranked University of Western Ontario Mustangs. For the University of Alberta, this is their fifth CIS championship of the season, to go along with gold in women's rugby, soccer and hockey and men's volleyball. The Bears hockey team will attempt to make it six next weekend in Kitchener at the CIS Men's Hockey Championship know as University Cup.[more]

BOBCATS BEAT OUT VIKES IN CONSOLATION FINAL

(Mar 17) HALIFAX - Court was back in session in the Metro Centre on the final day of the Final 8 CIS Men’s Basketball Championship, with the UVic Vikes tipping off against the athletic Brandon Bobcats in the consolation final. Last week, the teams faced each other in Edmonton in the Canada West Final Four, where the Bobcats beat the Vikes to strip them of their Canada West Championship title. The teams are no strangers - the Vikes record against the Cats this season was 1W-3L. The Vikes could not avenge last weeks loss and the Bobcats took the consolation final by a score of 69-63.
