SMU's Rajaraman chosen top coach HALIFAX, NS - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2003 Field Hockey Major Award Winners and league All-Stars. Sarah White of the conference champion, Saint Mary's Huskies has been named the 2003 Most Valuable Player, following a season which saw her lead the league in scoring with 7 goals in 8 regular season games. Sarah also scored in Sunday's 3-1 victory over UPEI in the conference Championship game. White is a 2nd year Arts major from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. The 2003 Atlantic University Sport Rookie of the Year is UPEI's Nicole Wagner. Wagner registered 2 goals during the regular season and also scored UPEI's lone goal in the championship game loss to Saint Mary's. For the 2nd year in a row, Saint Mary's head coach Sharon Rajaraman has been named the conference's Coach of the Year following a 7-1 regular season. Rajaraman has now won the award three times (2003, 2002, 1993) since taking over the Huskies program. Sonya Comeau of the UNB Varsity Reds is the 2003 recipient of the Gail Wilson Outstanding Contributor Award. The award takes into account exceptional human qualities such as putting the needs of the team first, consistently demonstrating respect, kindness, and concern for others and demonstrating dedication, commitment, and loyalty to the team both on and off the playing field. As well, the winner must display leadership and performance that has been instrumental in the overall performance of the team and exemplify the conduct and decorum expected of CIS field hockey student-athletes. Saint Mary's will represent the Atlantic conference at this weekend's CIS Championship being held
