TORONTO - Nick Snow scored a game-high 23 points and added nine rebounds as Toronto defeated McGill 82-69 in the opening round of the Ryerson Ed DeArmon memorial men's basketball tournament, Friday.
Moustafa El Zanaty of Montreal scored 19 in a losing cause for McGill. he was good on eight of 18 attempts from the field, including 3-for-7 from three-point range. He also went 2-for-3 from the line and was credited with four rebounds, a similar number of assists and a steal.
Teammate Yannick Chouinard added 13 points, while Nickolas pronovost and Matt Thornhill had nine apiece. Thornhill, who was only 3-for-12 from the field, had a team-high nine rebounds and led the Redmen with 31 minutes of court time.
Robert Paris and Nickolas Magalas eached netted 13 points for the Varsity Blues, who had five players reach double figures in scoring. Toronto led 20-14 after the opening quarter, 43-27 at the half and 63-47 after three quarters.
McGill plays Ryerson (87-75 losers to Waterloo) on Saturday at 4 pm.
