Gee-Gees guard to start inaugural OUA women's basketball all-star game

OTTAWA - Emilie Morasse, having waited four years between all-star appearances, has a clear plan for her latest accolade.

"I'm going there to show people how we play basketball at OttawaU."

The shooting guard and Ontario University Athletics second-team conference all-star will draw a start Saturday for the East division at the inaugural OUA women's basketball all-star game, in Kitchener. The East versus West tip-off will be held at RIM Park, Waterloo, at 7:00 p.m.

Morasse, who scored a team-high 13 points-per-game last season in her second year, will be the lone uOttawa player in her first all-star game appearance since high school. on the East division team coached by the Gee-Gees Andy Sparks.

The event will be staged as part of the OBA junior and juvenile provincial championship weekend.

Sparks, the OUA East coach of the year last year in his first season at the university level, will also coach the Ottawa Shock, an under-19 all-star club team he founded in 2006.

The message behind the university all-star contest is more important than the result.

"We're losing a lot of our girls to the States from Ontario," said Sparks, "and this is an example for the future players to see the level of play that goes on at the CIS.

"It's a possible good recruiting tool to get kids to stay at home."
